Maxed Out Mac Pro Costs $85K

Apple’s products are always known to cost a premium. Their latest and just newly available Mac Pro, fully maxed out, will cost you just over S$84K. This price includes the Pro Display XDR, but without any add-on software or warranty.

Before the new Mac Pro became available in the Apple Store, we only knew the price of the base model. At US$6K, it was already quite pricey. It may be justifiable for professional users, but of course, no one yet knew details about upgrade options.

Fully configured with maximum specifications that are presently available, the new Mac Pro costs S$74,138. There is yet a higher end rack-mount model listed, but not presently available for ordering, so we don’t know the pricing. Starting from a base price of S$8,699, this maxed out configuration includes:

  • 2.5 GHz 28‑core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.4 GHz (+S$9,800)
  • 1.5TB (12x128GB) of DDR4 ECC memory (S$35,000)
  • Two Radeon Pro Vega II Duo with 2x32GB of HBM2 memory each (+S$15,120)
  • 4 TB SSD storage (+S$1,960)
  • Apple Afterburner card (+S$2,800)
  • Stainless steel frame with wheels (+S$560)
  • Magic Mouse 2 + Magic Trackpad 2 (+S$199)

Then, add on a Pro Display XDR with Nano texture glass for a cool S$8,699, and since you’ll likely need a stand to go with that, add S$1,399 for that infamous Pro Stand.

That S$1.4k stand, incidentally, isn’t the only extremely expensive component. The wheels for the Mac Pro itself, if you noticed from the above list, is very costly. The steel frame alone is included at no charge (of course), but adding a set of wheels will cost you S$560, or S$140 per wheel.

All that hardware will cost you S$84,236. I suppose you should get AppleCare+ to protect your investment. Surprisingly, AppleCare+ for the Mac Pro is awfully cheap, at just S$479, compared to the cost of the base product price. AppleCare+ for the Pro Display XDR, on the other hand, at S$749, seems to be comparatively more expensive.

The grand total? S$85,464.
